So I'm a Gen X gal who was tired of fiddling with the finicky gears and derailleur on my cherished, 50 year old Peugeot Mixte...but I love the general style of that upright riding, light weight commuter / touring bike.
In looking around for a new ride, I was dismayed by all of the heavy, 40 pound plus "cruisers" and the forward leaning, straight handle bar "hybrids". I was very happy with the classic styling of the Groove (the metallic moss green and black is beautiful) and intrigued with the seven speed belt drive. Similar belt drive bikes by other companies were only three speeds which was a big "no" for me.
As we have bicycle experience, we did the assembly on the Groove ourselves and it was pretty straight forward: attach the front wheel, pedals, handlebars and seat. The belt drive, gear hub and brakes are all installed and are ready to ride. After owning this bike for the last couple of weeks, I'm happy to report the belt drive is as wonderful as everyone says: whisper quiet, smooth pedaling and with the seven speed Shimano internal hub, is a breeze to ride the streets and paths of my community. Even better? No maintenance! No cleaning and oiling a chain, no having to adjust a rattling derailleur; I can jump on this bike in a moments notice and just go. Perfect!
Diane,
Thank you for the great review! We hope you enjoy many miles on your new Groove. Happy riding!!
My mother just turned 70 and has been battling numerous health issues for years. She has recently discovered that she has developed arthritis in her back and it is hard for her to do her normal walk around her community (which she loves to to daily). We bought her this bike for her birthday and it has been a godsend for her. The bike is light and comfortable for her to use. She rides it every day to get out and get some exercise and see her friends. Definitely recommend!
I needed a causal bike as a street cruiser and ride in the park as my mountain bike was a little too clunky for this task. This bike has been a pleasure to ride around town. I love the aesthetic and get compliments all the time on it. It is a super comfortable and fun ride. I would definitely recommend to anyone looking to get a everyday/causal street cruiser
Grabbed one of these to ride around town/run quick errands. Rides smooth and no worries about chain grease ruining pants. Geometry great for the type of riding done in this particular bike.
